VANCOUVER, CANADA -- November 10, 2003 -- Nam Tai Electronics, Inc. (“Nam Tai” or the “Company”) (NYSE Symbol: NTE; CBOE Symbol: QNA) today announced it has increased the production capacity of EyeToy™ USB Camera (“EyeToy”) for Sony PlayStation®2. In response to a growing demand of EyeToy™, Nam Tai has increased its production capacity of EyeToy by 14 times from 50,000 units per month to 750,000 units per month.
On October 27, 2003, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that it has sold over one million copies of EyeToy since its European release in July 2003.
“We are very excited to see that the EyeToy has received such a great market response since its first launch in Europe,” said Mr. Tadao Murakami, Chairman of Nam Tai. “We believe that EyeToy will continue to make a great success with its forthcoming release in both Japan and North America.”
The EyeToy is an accessory of PlayStation®2, which employs motion-tracking technology to capture a player's body movement and transforms the image into on-screen interaction as a control method, the first gaming interface on a computer entertainment system.
“With our extensive manufacturing expertise in image-capturing devices, Nam Tai will continue to diversify the product line on image-capturing devices and capture the huge business opportunities arising in this area,” concluded Mr. Tadao Murakami.
